SHREVEPORT, La. – April 30, 2026 – LSU Health Shreveport (LSUHS) and Ochsner LSU Health (OLHS) released a comprehensive economic impact report today, detailing a $3.7 billion boost to the state of Louisiana in fiscal year 2025. Conducted by independent consulting firm Tripp Umbach, the study highlights how the ongoing partnership serves as a powerful engine for local economic development while delivering expert healthcare.

The partnership generates $3.7 billion in state-wide economic impact with 97% ($3.6 B) of those dollars staying in the North Louisiana economy. Today, one in every 12 jobs in North Louisiana is directly provided or supported by the partnership. The long-term value of medical education provided through this collaboration also shines through, as more than 4,300 LSUHS working alumni contributed an additional $5.7 billion to the regional economy.

"We are not just educating current students, we are building the future of healthcare for North Louisiana," said Lester Johnson, MD, Senior Vice Chancellor of LSU Health Shreveport. "Through our strong collaboration, we advance cutting-edge clinical care, vital medical research and deliver innovative medical education. We proudly train the next generation of expert healthcare leaders right here at home."

"At Ochsner LSU Health, we measure our success by the health and vitality of the people we serve," said David Callecod, Chief Executive Officer of Ochsner LSU Health. "This partnership allows us to bring expert care directly into our communities. We are actively building a stronger North Louisiana, ensuring residents have the resources and support they need to thrive for generations to come."

  • LSUHS alumni impact: LSUHS’s 4,379 working alumni contributed $5.7 billion to the North Louisiana economy in 2025. More than 70% of physicians in the region received part of their training at LSUHS.

"We had a bold vision in 2018 when we formed our partnership with LSU Health Shreveport, and we are delivering on our promise. Our partnership demonstrates what is possible when we combine world-class medical education with an unwavering commitment to patient care," said Pete November, President and Chief Executive Officer of Ochsner Health. "By investing in our communities, we are not only expanding access to life-saving treatments but also driving significant economic growth that helps the entire state of Louisiana thrive."

Leaders and Lawmakers Reflect on the LSU Health Shreveport and Ochsner LSU Health Economic Impact Report

Katrina Jackson-Andrews, Louisiana State Senator, District 34

“We are seeing healthcare improvements in Monroe. We are seeing different options for clinics; physicians are starting to want to come home to Monroe, and others are starting to want to relocate there. I love Ochsner, I love Ochsner (LSU Health) Monroe, I love Ochsner (LSU Health) Shreveport. I am happy for what they've done.”

“Ochsner Monroe Hospital is often at capacity, especially in the emergency room. The planned expansion will help reduce wait times and provide better care for patients as soon as they walk in. Ochsner is doing everything possible with its current space, but it’s clear that Northeast Louisiana, especially Monroe, needs this growth. More people are choosing Ochsner, and I’m proud to have helped secure state support for this important partnership.”

Thomas A. Pressly, Louisiana State Senator, District 38

“I'm so grateful for Ochsner LSU and the work that's being done, and our physician community to make sure that we have the resources that we need to have good quality healthcare. The partnership is (doing) a great job in making sure that we have those opportunities in North Louisiana.”

“The healthcare industry and our medical school, along with the entire School of Allied Health, play a tremendous role in our community’s economic impact. We must do everything we can to protect it. That is exactly what I am doing right here in Baton Rouge. The capitol is fighting for more investment in our region to ensure that we have the healthcare services we need, along with well-trained professionals and the space to teach the next generation of health care providers.”

Steven Jackson, Louisiana State Representative, District 2

“I think Ochsner and LSU Health is a great partnership. I want to make sure that we continue to strengthen this partnership and grow it in Northwest Louisiana. We have a lot of community-oriented events going on. They’re there with their sleeves rolled up, contributing back to the community, both financially and in community service.”

“They're partnering with local high schools. They're partnering with local organizations to build a pipeline, because we know that there are nurses that are needed. That's a high demand field. And so, they've stepped up to the plate to help train the next generation of health care professionals, and that's going to be important to our area as we try to meet the demand of our local workforce needs.”

Jack McFarland, Louisiana State Representative, District 13

“The partnership between Ochsner LSU Health and LSU Health Shreveport has been transformational for North Louisiana. It means better access to high quality care close to home, strong job growth, and a healthcare workforce that is being trained right here to serve our communities for decades to come. From economic opportunity to lifesaving services, this collaboration continues to strengthen our region and improve quality of life for families across North Louisiana.”

Leonardo Seoane, MD, FACP, Executive Vice President and Chief Academic Officer, Ochsner Health

“Since the partnership began in 2018, Ochsner LSU Health and LSU Health Shreveport have made a tremendous and lasting impact on training the next generation of healthcare professionals, enhancing access to care and improving the quality of care to communities across North Louisiana. This economic impact report validates the significance of this partnership for healthcare across the entire state of Louisiana.”

Granville Morse, MD, System Medical Director – Service Lines, Ochsner Health and Ochsner LSU Health and physician liaison, Government Relations

“The partnership began in 2018, and at that time access was really a challenge. Access remains a challenge, but the impact we’ve made has been tremendous. The more access you have, the more upstream you can get with your patients and try to prevent them from coming into the emergency department with a more complex illness.

When we took over the partnership, the total number of visits per day in our clinics was around 800. Now we’ve had a record of over 3,000 visits a day across our ambulatory clinics and outpatient settings. That’s the way you can make a difference in your community if you have better access which leads to better outcomes.”
