Dr. Maier completed a degree in Biological Engineering from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge and then obtained his medical doctorate at the LSU School of Medicine in Shreveport. He completed rigorous residency training in internal medicine at LSUHSC-Shreveport, serving as Chief Resident during his final year. He completed fellowship in Endocrinology and Metabolism in June 2012. After fellowship, Dr. Maier joined the Endocrinology Section at Overton Brooks VAMC and continues to attend the general endocrinology clinic at Ochsner-LSU Health-Shreveport Hospital. He attends on the VA endocrinology consult service and the endocrinology, diabetes mellitus, and thyroid biopsy clinics. He is involved in medical education at several stages, serving as the Program Director for the endocrinology fellowship and content expert on thyroid ultrasonography, and by participating in medical student and allied health student endocrinology courses and rotations. He is a reviewer for several medical journals. He is a member of the Tau Beta Pi and Alpha Omega Alpha honor societies and is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and the American College of Endocrinology. He is a member of the Endocrine Society, the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, the American College of Physicians, the Shreveport Medical Society and the Louisiana State Medical Society.
