MONROE, La. – Ochsner LSU Health has named Michael D. O’Neal II, MD, chief executive officer of Ochsner LSU Health – Monroe Medical Center. A West Monroe native and LSU Health Shreveport-trained internal medicine physician, Dr. O’Neal has served as chief medical officer of Monroe Medical Center since 2020. 

In his role as CMO, Dr. O’Neal has helped advance quality, improve the efficiency of the hospital medicine program and supported strategic planning efforts as Ochsner LSU Health continues to expand access to healthcare services across northeast Louisiana. His leadership experience also includes serving on several important committees including quality, medical executive, trauma, stroke, ICU and hospitalist service line. Dr. O’Neal joined Ochsner LSU Health in 2020 as chief medical officer and hospitalist at Monroe Medical Center. He also holds an academic position as assistant professor of internal medicine with LSU Health Shreveport.

Dr. O’Neal succeeds Mark Randolph, who will remain with Ochsner LSU Health as he transitions to serve as chief executive officer of Ochsner LSU Health – Academic Medical Center in Shreveport. Randolph has led Ochsner LSU Health Monroe through continued progress in quality, patient experience and access to care.

Ochsner LSU Health Monroe continues to expand access to high-quality care across northeast Louisiana. Monroe Medical Center is a 233-bed acute care hospital and is northeast Louisiana’s first Level III Trauma Center. Recent investments in the Monroe region include expanded outpatient access through the 7th Street Multispecialty Clinic and McMillan Multispecialty Clinic in West Monroe, HawkHealth at the University of Louisiana Monroe, emergency department renovations and a new helipad at Monroe Medical Center and the future Ochsner LSU Health – Monroe Cancer Center.

A recent economic impact report found that Ochsner LSU Health had a $369.1 million economic impact in the Monroe area, supporting 2,398 jobs, including 879 direct jobs and 1,519 indirect or induced jobs, and generating $17.7 million in state and local taxes in northeast Louisiana.
