Specialized Treatment for Your Burn Injury

If you’ve suffered a burn, whether it’s a minor injury or a severe one, you need advanced care right away. Our Burn Center provides that kind of care to our patients. We’re one of the nation’s leading burn treatment facilities and the only such center in north and central Louisiana. Patients from throughout Louisiana, as well as neighboring states, turn to us for our expertise.

The Burn Center is located inside Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport’s Academic Medical Center, on Kings Highway in Shreveport. When you come to the Burn Center, we’ll quickly get you in to see our team so we can start your care and treatment right away. Our burn team includes a wide range of medical professionals who specialize in burn care, including:

• Burn/trauma surgeons
• Nurse practitioners and nurses
• Physical and occupational therapists
• Psychologists
• Registered dietitians, as successful burn recovery involves specific nutritional requirements
• Social workers
• Technicians

In addition to our specialized inpatient care for severe, traumatic burns, we also offer outpatient care for minor burns.

Our Burn Services

We care for both children and adults in our Burn Center, with 30% to 35% of our cases coming from children. We see more than 2,500 patients per year in our outpatient clinic, and we perform about 200 surgeries per year to care for patients with severe burns. We also perform elective reconstructive surgery for about 70 to 80 patients per year who have recovered from burn injuries. We offer advanced hydrotherapy care as part of your treatment. Hydrotherapy involves using water to clean your burn, minimize the formation of scar tissue and promote successful healing. Depending on your injury and your unique needs, reconstructive surgery may be part of the treatment plan that you and your care team create together.

Our center includes a specialized intensive-care unit for patients with severe burns, as well as dedicated operating and recovery rooms and a research laboratory.
