Parkinson's Disease

About Parkinson's Disorder Treatment

Parkinson’s disease affects the brain and causes symptoms like tremors, stiffness, and balance issues. It happens when nerve cells that make dopamine, a chemical that helps control movement, start to break down. There is no cure, but treatments like medications, physical therapy, and sometimes surgery can help manage symptoms. With the right care and support, many people with Parkinson’s can live active and meaningful lives.

Our team at Ochsner LSU Health Movement Disorders Program provides expert care for Parkinson's disease across North Louisiana. Our movement disorders neurologists collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including a functional neurosurgeon, physical and occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, social workers, and professionals from other fields. By working together, we delivered individualized treatment plans and empower patients and care partners to achieve a better quality of life while navigating Parkinson's disease.

We understand that a Parkinson’s disease diagnosis can feel overwhelming and difficult to navigate. To support patients and their care partners from the very beginning, we have developed a dedicated Newly Diagnosed Parkinson’s Disease Clinic. Through this program, every patient and care partner are connected with a care navigator who provides education, guidance, and links to available resources, helping them feel informed, supported, and empowered as they move forward.
