Dr. Malek graduated from the Lebanese University Medical School and awarded “Standard of Excellence” on the 2011 International Foundations of Medicine Clinical Science Examination from the National Board of Medical Examiners. He pursued his medical training at the Université Saint Joseph in Beirut and Pierre et Marie Curie, Paris-Sorbonne University. Dr. Malek moved to Houston in 2018 where he completed an Infectious Diseases Fellowship (immunocompromised focus) at the University of Texas Health at Houston (McGovern Medical School) and then Transplant and Oncology Infectious Diseases Fellowship at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. Dr. Malek also completed physician educator, healthcare management, and clinical safety and effectiveness programs at UT Health and UT- MD Anderson Cancer Center. He then joined LSU Health Sciences Center Shreveport as an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the division of Infectious Diseases and now sees patients at Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport. Patient care is his top priority, and he is dedicated to providing the very best care by preventing, treating and alleviating the impact of diseases on his patients’ quality of life.Dr. Malek has more than 45 peer-reviewed publications on PubMed and more than 15 abstracts on PMC presented at national and international scientific meetings. Dr. Malek wrote multiple book chapters and serves as a peer-reviewer and review editor for high-impact medical journals. His research passion lies in focusing on infections that affect patients with cancer, organ transplant recipients, and those with weakened immune system whether due to primary or acquired immunodeficiencies disorders. He enjoyed teaching and mentoring medical students, residents and fellows and creating new research opportunities to shape their academic and research careers.
