Bharat Guthikonda, MD, FACS, FAANS is an established and highly skilled academic neurosurgeon with more than 10 years of neurosurgical experience with special interest in skull base research, brain aneurysms, brain tumors, and arteriovenous malformations. He is well-regarded in the northern Louisiana, earning numerous accolades for his quality and patient-centered care. He was recently recognized in the Top Doctors issue of SB Magazine for the Shreveport-Bossier, Louisiana area. Dr. Guthikonda and his surgical team were also honored at the LSU Health Shreveportâ at 2019 Evening for Healers event for a traumatic brain injury case that served as the highlighted trauma case at the event.
He received a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from Cornell University, where he graduated Magna cum Laude and in the top three percent of his class. He received his professional training at Baylor College of Medicine and served as a fellow and instructor at the University of Cincinnati.
Dr. Guthikonda has conducted extensive research in the use of radioactive substances in research, diagnosis, and treatment of brain tumors. He has presented nationally and internationally on more than 250 occasions and published more than 100 peer reviewed journal articles, comments, book chapters, and manuscripts. He also serves on numerous hospital, medical school, and professional organization committees including acting as the Chair of the Medico-Legal Committee of the Council of State Neurosurgical Societies, a member of the Executive Committee of the Council of State Neurosurgical Societies, and a Diplomate of the American Board of Neurological Surgery.
Currently, Dr. Guthikonda serves as the Chairman of the Department of Neurosurgery at LSU Health Shreveport.
