Born and raised in Haiti, Dr. Debbie Chandler is a Physician Anesthesiologist, double trained and double boarded in Pediatric and General Anesthesiology. She earned her medical degree at the State University Hospital of Haiti, then she completed her anesthesiology residency in Strasbourg, France, Hopital de Haute Pierre, a division of Louis Pasteur University. Upon completion, she presented her memoir titled “The Cervical Epidural in the Treatment of Chronic Cervicobrachial Neuralgia.”At the conclusion of her training abroad, Dr. Chandler returned to Haiti where she worked as the Chief of Obstetric Anesthesia Department at the State University Hospital. Afterwards, due to the tumultuous political situation in Haiti, she relocated to the United States to pursue her physician career path. In 2006, she joined LSU Health Shreveport to complete her Anesthesiology Residency.Upon her graduation in 2010, Dr. Chandler was recruited to her teaching hospital, LSU Health Shreveport, and she has since performed as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Anesthesiology. She has served alternatively as Pediatric Anesthesiology Division Chief, Preoperative Director and Clinical Director of the Department of Anesthesiology.In 2015, she attended the Accountability Leadership for the Healthcare team, a course sponsored by Harvard Medical School. During the same year, she was awarded the Outstanding Contribution to the Residency Program Award. Dr. Chandler was also promoted Associate Professor in that same period.In 2016, Dr. Chandler was appointed by Chancellor Ghali, Assistant Dean of Diversity Affairs. Since assuming that position, Dr. Chandler has demonstrated strong relationships with students, residents, and faculty while prioritizing the increase of minority applicants in LSU Health Shreveport campus.In 2017, Dr. Chandler became the Vice Chair for the Department of Anesthesiology. Dr. Chandler now serves as an Associate Dean for both Diversity Affairs and Student Affairs.
