Marc A. Colon, MD is Associate Professor and Director of Forensic Psychiatry and Medical Student Education in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine at LSU Health Shreveport. He is a graduate of the LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans and completed Categorical Internship and Residency in the Department of Psychiatry at the LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans. He subsequently completed the LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans Department of Psychiatry Division of Law and Psychiatry Fellowship Program in 1998. Dr. Colon is a board-certified forensic psychiatrist who is the Program Director of the Forensic Psychiatry Program of the LSU Health Shreveport Department of Psychiatry in Shreveport. In addition to his administrative duties at LSU Health Shreveport, Dr. Colon has experience in several areas of forensic work. He evaluates and treats incarcerated adults and youth at the Caddo Correctional Center. He evaluates developmentally disabled individuals with forensic involvement at Pinecrest Supports and Services Center. In his private practice, Dr. Colon has evaluated sanity commission defendants, as well as individuals involved in interdiction cases, sex offender cases, workman's compensation cases, disability evaluations, and immigration proceedings. Dr. Colon is a Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and has received the Nancy C.A. Roeske, MD Award for Excellence in Medical Education and the Irma Bland, MD Award for Excellence in Residency Education. He is a past President of the Louisiana Psychiatric Medical Association and past President of the Southern Chapter of the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law. Dr. Colon's research interests include application of the Daubert criteria to emerging psychiatric knowledge and research in new frontiers in forensic medicine including neuroimaging and genomics.
