Maria Gabriela Dominguez Garcia, MD

Dr. Maria Dominguez Garcia is an Associate Professor of Clinical Pediatrics in the Division of Neonatology at LSU Health Shreveport and a neonatologist at Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport St. Mary’s since 2020. Dr. Dominguez grew up in Venezuela where she graduated Cum Laude as an MD and then moved to the US where she completed her Pediatric residency at St. Joseph’s Children Hospital in Paterson, NJ and completed her fellowship at LAC USC Medical Center in Los Angeles, California. Dr. Dominguez earned her certification from the American Boards of Pediatrics in General Pediatrics and is board eligible for the Neonatal- Perinatal Medicine board Certification. Dr. Dominguez is the Medical Director of the Newborn nursery and is also involved in teaching med students, residents and NICU fellows. Her clinical interests include newborn nutrition and growth as well as the use of non-invasive mechanical ventilation. She is also working on developing and improving clinical guidelines in both the newborn nursery and the NICU. Dr. Dominguez fell in love with the field of neonatology when she was a med student back in her home country of Venezuela and she finds extremely rewarding the opportunity to care for the smallest and sickest babies and being able to send them home with their families.
