Dr. Chunga is a board-certified neurologist with expertise in Movement Disorders and Clinical Neurophysiology. She is originally from Peru, where she received her medical degree from Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos. On her journey to becoming an academic neurologist, she pursued a Neuroimaging research fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. She then completed her Neurology residency and fellowships in Movement Disorders and Clinical Neurophysiology at the University of Rochester. In July 2024, Dr. Chunga joined LSU Health Shreveport as an Assistant Professor and Director of the Movement Disorders Program. She prioritizes a person-centered approach and specializes in the care of people with movement disorders, including the use of advanced treatments such as deep brain stimulation and botulinum toxin therapy. Dr. Chunga has a special interest in the application of neurophysiological tools to improve the understanding, diagnosis, and management of movement disorders. She is also dedicated to developing strategies to improve hospital outcomes for people with movement disorders and address health disparities in Neurology.
