Samina Hayat, MBBS

Dr. Samina Hayat is Board Certified in Rheumatology and has been with LSU Health Shreveport and the Overton Brooks VA Medical Center in Shreveport for the past 26 years, after completing her Rheumatology Fellowship at LSU Health Shreveport. Dr. Hayat’s practice includes Rheumatoid Arthritis, Systemic Lupus and Scleroderma, Vasculitis, Uveitis, Interstitial Lung Disease, Sarcoidosis, and difficult to manage undiagnosed diseases. She is director of the Scleroderma and Lupus clinics. Dr. Hayat is well known both regionally and nationally seeing referrals not only from Louisiana and the surrounding states, but also as far away as Tennessee. In addition to her practice at Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport, she helps to care for our Veterans and has been on staff at the Overton Brooks VA Medical Center in Shreveport for last 26 years.\r\n\r\nShe has served as a Professor since 2008 and was awarded the inaugural recipient of the Robert E. Wolf Professorship in Rheumatology. She was named Chief and Director of the Center of Excellence for Arthritis and Rheumatology (CEAR) in 2014. Dr. Hayat has trained numerous medical students, residents and Rheumatology Fellows. Since being named Rheumatology Fellowship Program Director in 2004, she has won various Fellowship Training awards","most recently she was awarded the Fellowship Expansion Award. By growing our program to include three Fellows, LSU Health Shreveport now has one of the largest programs in the south. She remains in touch with former Fellows as they are comfortable both consulting her for referrals and asking for advice in caring for complex patients.\r\n\r\nIn 2018, for her compassion and the care of her patients, Dr. Hayat was awarded the Leonard Tow Award for Humanism in Medicine and inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society. She is a member of the American College of Rheumatology, a Fellow in the American College of Physicians, and a Fellow in the American College of Rheumatology. She is actively involved in research as a Principal Investigator for both clinical and drug trials and is also a member of the Scleroderma Clinical Trials Consortium. She has published several papers and abstracts in peer-reviewed journals.
