Terry Curtis Lairmore, MD

Dr. Lairmore graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Baylor University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. He then attended Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, with election to the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society and graduated as valedictorian of his class with the Founder’s Medal. Dr. Lairmore completed internship and residency in general surgery at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. During his chief residency, he also served as senior registrar on the Hepatobiliary/Transplant Service at the Royal Infirmary in Edinburgh, Scotland. He completed a three-year dedicated research fellowship in the Department of Genetics, studying the molecular genetics of the familial endocrine neoplasia syndromes. He contributed to work that ultimately led to the identification of the mutations that cause multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2A (MEN 2A). Dr. Lairmore is a member of several learned surgical societies, including the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons, the Society of Surgical Oncology, and the Southern Surgical Association. He served on the Executive Council of the Association for Academic Surgery and served as Vice President of the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons.Dr. Lairmore’s clinical interests and expertise are Surgical Oncology and Endocrine Surgery, including comprehensive management of pancreas and liver tumors (hepatobiliary surgery), upper and lower gastrointestinal malignancies, melanoma, soft tissue sarcomas, breast cancer, and endocrine tumors including benign thyroid nodules, thyroid cancer, hyperparathyroidism, and adrenal tumors. He is a nationally recognized expert in the care of patients with multiple endocrine neoplasia and neuroendocrine tumors of the pancreas. Dr. Lairmore is recognized internationally for contributions to early surgical interventions based on genetic testing, as well as minimally invasive approaches to endocrine and cancer surgery. Dr. Lairmore has extensive experience with minimally invasive and robotic techniques, which can result in less post-operative pain, shorter hospital stays, and more rapid recovery. Dr. Lairmore has a personal philosophy of patient-oriented clinical care and focuses on patient satisfaction and excellence in clinical outcomes.
