Ochsner LSU Health welcomes maternal-fetal medicine specialist Dr. Margaret Carter

SHREVEPORT, La. – Ochsner LSU Health is pleased to welcome maternal-fetal medicine specialist Margaret F. Carter, MD, MSc, MSHA, to its team. She joins Perry Scott Barrilleaux, MD and David Lewis, MD to advance high-risk obstetrical care across North Louisiana.

With more than two decades of clinical experience, Dr. Carter brings extensive expertise in maternal-fetal medicine and complex obstetric care. She is triple board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology, maternal-fetal medicine and addiction medicine.

Dr. Carter specializes in managing high-risk pregnancies and maternal medical conditions, delivering evidence-based, patient-centered care to improve maternal and fetal outcomes. Her clinical approach, like that of her two renowned colleagues, emphasizes compassionate communication, multidisciplinary collaboration and individualized care for patients navigating medically complex pregnancies. She is passionate about empowering patients throughout their pregnancy journey.

Dr. Carter provides expert care for conditions including:

• High-risk pregnancies

• Maternal chronic medical conditions

• Preeclampsia

• Gestational diabetes

• Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy

• Fetal complications

• Risks associated with late preterm birth

“Dr. Carter’s experience, expertise and commitment to women’s health further strengthen our long-standing maternal-fetal medicine program,” said Dani Zoorob, MD, chair of obstetrics and gynecology at Ochsner LSU Health and interim dean of the LSU Health Shreveport School of Medicine. “This expansion of our team also reinforces our mission to provide advanced, highly specialized care for mothers and babies across our region.”

A native of Hammond, Louisiana, Dr. Carter earned her medical degree from LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans. She completed her obstetrics and gynecology residency at Tulane School of Medicine and pursued a fellowship in maternal-fetal medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. She is a fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and an active member of the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine.
