Donald Elmajian, MD, FACS is a Professor of Urology and Director of Urologic Oncology at LSU Health Shreveport. He graduated AOA from The University of Southern California Medical School in 1988. He completed his Residency in Urology in 1994 and his Fellowship in Urologic Oncology in 1996 from the same institution. As an Assistant Professor of Urology at Oklahoma University Health Sciences Center, he led the programmatic development of the Urologic Oncology Service. He has worked in the same capacity at LSU Health Shreveport since his recruitment in 2001.He has served a number of leadership roles within the institution, including directing the Clinical Research effort within the Department of Urology, being Chair of both the Cancer Committee and the Conflict of Interest Committee, and directing the introduction and implementation of the DaVinci Robotic System into the University Hospital. He is the author of numerous papers and abstracts, is active in the American Urological Association, and has mentored numerous medical students and residents through their training and beyond.He transitioned his busy practice in 2015 into the greater Shreveport community, and is now a part time faculty member, mentoring Urology Residents in the community setting, while continuing to be intimately involved in the Department of Urology. He has a broad practice specializing in the surgical management of prostate cancer, kidney cancer, bladder cancer, testicular cancer, and retroperitoneal surgery, utilizing formal open surgical techniques as well as minimally invasive instrumentation utilizing the DaVinci Surgical System.
